Winter Social 2024

Our second Winter Social took place at The Tannahill Centre, right in the heart of Ferguslie, so that more people from the community could join us and celebrate the creativity of local children. The event centred on BLEND FOLD MOVE, an exhibition of work made by pupils from Glencoats and St Fergus Primary Schools.

Over the school year, children worked closely with artists Coral Brookes and Eo Stearn through our Sculpture in Schools programme. Across six lively sessions, they experimented with a range of materials- casting, printing, carving, clay, and textiles – while exploring connections between bodies, buildings, landscapes, and the spaces in between real and imaginary worlds.

The project was shaped by the children’s own ideas, including the playful title Blend – Fold – Move, first suggested by a Glencoats pupil. This concept grew into a collaborative, shape-shifting making game, guiding the programme’s flexible approach and encouraging pupils to experiment freely together.

By hosting the exhibition off-site at the Tannahill Centre, the children’s work reached a new and wider audience, giving friends, families, and neighbours the chance to see their achievements in a familiar community space. This created a sense of pride and ownership, while showing just how powerful creativity can be in bringing people together.
